The 2020 Admissions Cycle

COVID-19 Updates

The 2020 Summer Biomedical Sciences Institute will not take place this summer because of Duke University's COVID-19 guidelines. In keeping with the University's requirement that large gatherings be cancelled and the uncertainty of how the novel coronavirus will behave in the warmer months, we must cancel our program.

We regret this and are hopeful that those of you who are currently first-year students will consider us for the 2021 program. Those of you who are sophomores are welcome to be in touch with us for pre-health advising.

During this time, all Duke University School of Medicine staff are working from home. You can reach us with questions via email at sbsi@dm.duke.edu. You can also leave a voice message at 919-684-5882. Please give us a day or two to reply as we adjust to our new reality.

I know that many of you are in a virtual environment at your own institutions. I hope the transition has not been too disruptive and that you will all successfully complete the semester. Reach out to your institution's resources if you need assistance and look deep inside for the strength and resilience that has brought you this far.

Finally, please abide by the guidelines for your personal health that have been provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Both agencies are posting regular updates. Your state department of Health and Human Services is also posting regular updates. These are your best and most reliable sources for COVID-19 information.

Thank you for your interest in our program. We invite you to keep in to keep in touch. Stay well.
